Dall Sheep Research in Southcentral Alaska

This has been an ambitious year for Tom Lohuis, Southcentral Alaska's new Dall sheep biologist. This spring Lohuis was helicopter net-gunning ewes for examination and radiocollaring, and in May and June he was chasing down and collaring newborn lambs. Summer found him scrambling down cliffs to retrieve collars and flying hundreds of hours in the Chugach Mountains monitoring his collared animals.

Southeast Deer Numbers Down Doe Survival Key to Rebuilding the Population

November is prime time for Southeast Alaska deer hunters. Bucks are active and may respond to calling, the leaves are off the trees and visibility is good, and most deer have dropped out of the alpine down into the forests.
“We're moving into the best hunting, rut is coming and bucks are going to start moving,” said state wildlife biologist Ryan Scott.
